Has AT&T Lost Its Mind?
January 29th, 2008 by adminAT&T plans, if not already, to check the content of its users as a means of limiting the illegal material going through its tubes. This sort of thinking is rather odd considering the laws that govern the content over phone lines doesn’t place the liability AT&T. That is why Napster and Grokster were sued verses AT&T. This immunity comes from laws setup so that the content isn’t touched or modified therefore AT&T is just the carrier and doesn’t have any say in what is actually going through their pipes. But if they start getting involved in the content they start to lose that immunity. This idea of monitoring everything the consumer downloads or views is very Orwellian and very extreme. This sort of control doesn’t look well for AT&T’s customer base.
